Green Team/ Garden Program
Where kids and gardens grow together
Our school garden is already established, but now we want to grow something bigger: a hands-on garden education program that engages every Sunrise student, regularly.

Here's our vision and our plans for this year. Scroll down to give us input and see how you can help.

Is your child interested in joining the Green Team Garden Club?
Our Vision
We believe every Sunrise child should have regular, hands-on time in the garden. We're starting with a weekly afterschool club, but we're working toward:

-
A garden educator for all students, several days a week
-
A secure, functional space with a courtyard fence and year-round infrastructure
-
Sustainable summer watering through rain barrels and irrigation
-
Community partnerships with McDaniel High's McRoots club and the Roseway Heights middle school garden
-
A garden for the whole child—a sensory garden, a mindfulness space for student wellness, and educational signage.
-
Family events like a Fall Harvest Festival and an Earth Day celebration, once we've built enough support

We'll shape these together—with our garden committee and your input.
This Year's Goals
Starting small and building steadily. By June, we aim to:

-
Form a garden committee with a parent from each grade
-
Run a weekly Green Team club for students
-
Build a security fence and install a new shed
-
Install rain barrels for irrigation
-
Start a sensory garden with the Green Team
-
Explore a mindfulness space, garden signage, and connections to local native cultural traditions
How We're Funded
This year we received a $6,750 Eco School grant, which launches our weekly afterschool club and funds the infrastructure and supplies below.

Our long-term goal is $12,000 a year—enough for a garden educator serving all students—raised through grants and future fundraisers. Every dollar gets us closer.
Get Involved
The garden thrives when families pitch in. Every bit helps.

Our goal is to have at least one parent per grade help us plan out and implement this vision.
Monthly sessions where families help get our garden in tip top shape.
Food provided.
Interested leading some afterschool lessons with the green team? We've got money allocated for a garden educator.
